I arrived at about 7:01 and left at about 7:17 p.m. No one showed up. About 15% of Sacramento's pavement was wet, and there were many things to do on New Year's Eve.

Skaters - Bryan, Steve, and Morgan - view Hard Rock Christmas tree on the December 4, 2000, Monday Night Skate.

Letter W imagee had 2 skaters; Mitchell and myself. I am still unable to connect my new camera to my PC; no new pictures. I will be gone to visit my mother next week, but skaters can still meet at 3rd and S at 7:00 p.m. to skate.

We did a Downtown Christmas lights skate. First we skated to the Hard Rock Cafe and Lima Park. Next we skated East to the State Capitol. The State Capitol tree was lit up.

We skated North on 10th Street to J Street, where we skated East. We skated around town on J Street, K Street, and several other streets, looking at Christmas lights and restaurants.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., we skated West on S Street back to original 3rd and S starting point.

I estimate we skated about 6 miles.

After the skate Mitchell and I enjoyed food, beverages, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Steve Lee looks at Santa's Workshop on the December 18, 2000, Monday Night Skate.

 

e had 6 skaters: Gordon, John, Mitchell, Steve Lee, Yvonne, and myself. Gordon, Director of the Skate Patrol, led us on a Christmas light skate. I have a new camera, and I did take some skaters and Christmas lights pictures. So far I am unable to upload these pictures from my camera to my PC, but stay tuned.

First we skated to the Hard Rock Cafe and Lima Park. Next we skated to the State Capitol.

Next we skated North and East through town until we were skating East on McKinley Boulevard, We skated East on McKinley Boulevard until we reached Elvas, where we turned North. We skated North on Elvas and 59th Street until we were on the North side of Highway 50.

Soon we were at 53 and S Streets for the greatest display of Christmas lights in the universe. Skating through the arches, looking at the lights, and talking with Santa Claus was sweet. I hope to eventually have photographs.

We returned by skating South on 48th Street. More lights with music. Next we skated South and North on several streets, including 45th Street, 44th Street, and 43 Street.

Eventually, we returned to our 3rd and S starting point by skating West on M, South on Alhambra, and West on S.

I estimate we skated 10 to 12 miles.

Since Vallejo's was closed, after the skate we all enjoyed food, beverages, and conversation at Ernesto's.

Mari Tonin, Founder of the Monday Night Skate, looks at Christmas lights on the December 18, 2000, Monday Night Skate.

e had 2 skaters. John, and myself. My camera is still broken; no new pictures. We discussed how December 10, next Monday, will be our Christmas lights skate.

We did a Sacramento River run. First we skated South on 3rd Street to Broadway. On Broadway we skated West to the Marina. After skating around the Marina, we skated South on Ramp Road and the Sacramento River Levee to Sutterville Road.

On Sutterville Road we skated East to Land Park Boulevard and North into Land Park. We skated around Land Park for a while, ending up at Sacramento City College. We skated around Sacramento City College and up up up and down down down some stairs.

From Sacramento City College, we skated West to Land Park Boulevard. On Land Park Boulevard we skated North to the Tower Theater. After looking at the marquee, we returned our 3rd and S starting point on Broadway,11th Street and S Street..

I estimate we skated about 8 miles.

After the skate John and I enjoyed food, beverages, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Gordon led us on a unique downtown, Elvas, M Street skate.

First, Downtown weeee skated up and down a new 10 story parking lot!

After regrouping, we skated East until we were on McKinley. We skated to Yvonne's house, leaving a note asking her to attend our December 10 Christmas lights skate.

We skated to Marlene's house, then we skated East to Elvas. On Elvas we skated to 56th Street. On 56th Street we skated South to M Street. On M Street we skated West, regrouping at East Portal Park.

After regrouping, we continued East on M Street and K Street, returning to our 3rd and S starting point.

I estimate we skated about 8 to 10 miles.

After the skate Steve Lee and I enjoyed food, beverages, and conversation at Vallejo's.

As Mitchell suggested, we did a Sacramento River run. First we skated South on 3rd Street to Broadway.

After regrouping, we skated West on Broadway to Ramp Road, where we skated South on the road and on the levee to Sutterville Road, where we regrouped.

Next we skated East on Sutterville Road to the Land Park entrance of the Sacramento Zoo, where we again regrouped. We skated East into Land Park, where we skated around for awhile.

To return we skated North on Land Park Boulevard to the Tower Theater marquee, where we regrouped one final time.

To get back to our 3rd and S starting point, we skated West on Broadway, North on 11th Street, and West on T and S Streets.

I estimate we skated about 6 to 8 miles.

After the skate all 3 of us enjoyed food, beverages, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Steve and Mitchell on Richards Boulevard on the February 5, 2001 Monday Night Skate.

e had 4 skaters: Carol, Kevin, Marty, and myself. My camera is still broken; no new pictures.

We did a Richards Boulevard skate. First we skated North on 3rd Street, West on N Street, and North again into Old Sacramento.

After regrouping in Old Sacramento, we skated North on the American River Parkway to the bridge to Discovery Park. Instead of skating West into Discovery Park, we skated East on Richards Boulevard. Most of Richards Boulevard now has sidewalks.

After passing the Erotic Dancers club, we skated further East on Richards Boulevard, South at the next intersection, and East to 12th Street, where we regrouped.

Next we skated South on 12th Street into Downtown Sacramento, where we enjoyed skating up and down two of the best parking lots in the world before returning to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated 6-8 miles.

After the skate 3 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

e had 5 skaters: Gordon, Larry, Mitchell, Yvonne, and myself. Yvonne and I wore costumes. Gordon led us on a skate to and from Sacramento City College. My camera was broken, but Mitchell brought his, and he kindly sent me the adjacent photo.

We started West on S Street, then we skated South on 11th Street.

After regrouping at Broadway, we skated South on Riverside. Then we skated East into Land Park. After skating through Land Park, we came out in Sacramento City College.

As soon as we got to Sacramento City it started to rain, so we started back toward 3rd and S, by skating North on Freeport Boulevard. Fortunately, the rain stopped right away.

Skating North on Freeport, we turned West on Vallejo. After a while we skated North again. Soon we were at the Tower Theatre. Next we skated West on Broadway, North on 11th, and West on S back to our 3rd and S starting point.

I estimate we skated 6 to 8 miles.

After the skate all 5 of us met for food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Money Store in West Sacramento from the Front (3/22/2000)

e had 6 skaters: Gordon, Mitchell, Steve Lee, Marty, Yvonne, and myself. We discussed that next Monday would be our Halloween skate (costumes), Mitchell led us on a West Sacramento skate.

We skated North on 3rd Street and West on the Tower Bridge to West Sacramento. In West Sacramento we skated North on 3rd and 5th Streets to the golf course and the smooth streets Critter used for his skating races.

e skated on several other streets in West Sacramento. Then we returned over the Tower Bridge back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated around 8 miles.

After the skate Larry, whose car and skates have been stolen, joined 5 of us for food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Letter W graphice had 9 skaters, including Mari, Founder of the Monday Night Skate. I did not bring my camera; no new pictures. Chad announced that he would be leading some Saturday skates. We did a reverse Sacramento River run.

First we skated South on 3rd Street to Broadway. After regrouping, we skated East on Broadway to 5th Street, where we skated South to 5th Avenue.

On 5th and 4th Avenues we skated East to Riverside Avenue. On Riverside we skated South to Sutterville Road, where we regrouped.

From Sutterville Road we skated North on the Sacamento River Levee. Then we skated North on Front Street to the waterfront dock near Tower Bridge.

After regrouping, we skated down and up the waterfront dock. Then we skated East on Q Street and South on 3rd Street back to our 3rd and S starting point.

I estimate we stated 6 to 7 miles.

After the skate, 7 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Critter and Channelle after the October 1, 2001 Monday Night Skate.

Letter W graphice had 10 skaters. I announced this website now offers an email subscription for those who want email about skating events. I did not bring my camera; no new pictures. We skated to Sacramento State and back on Elvas.

First we skated East on R and K Street to a parking lot near Andiamo's. After regrouping we skated East on M Street to East Portal Park.

After regrouping, we again skated East on M Street and a few other streets to the parking lot of Sacramento State. Some of us then enjoyed going up and down this nice parking lot.

After regrouping, we skated to a parking lot near H and Elvas.

After regrouping we blasted toward Downtown on Elvas.

After a final regrouping at 33rd and C, we skated on C, Alhambra, K Street, 11th Street, and S Street to our 3rd and S starting point.

I estimate we stated 8 to 10 miles.

After the skate, 7 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

First we skated South on 3rd Street to Broadway. After regrouping we skated East on Broadway to The Marina.

After regrouping at the Marina, we skated South on the Sacramento Levee to Sutterville Road. After regrouping at Sutterville Road, we skated West to Land Park.

After regrouping, we skated through Land Park to a High School on Vallejo. After regrouping, we skated North on Marty to the Tower Theatre.

After regrouping at Tower Theatre, we returned to our 3rd and S starting point, by skating West on Broadway, North on 11th and West on S.

I estimate we stated about 6 to 7 miles.

After the skate, 8 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Skaters Regroup Near Discovery Park Bridge on September 17, 2001 Monday Night Skate.

Letter W graphice had 17 skaters, including Mari Tonin, Founder of the Monday Night Skate, and 1 bike rider. Gordon Innes, Director of the Skate Patrol, said that much of the American River Parkway has been repaved, and he led us on an American River Parkway skate.

First we skated North on 3rd Street and West in front of the Crocker Art Museum to Old Sacramento, regrouping twice.

Next we skated on the American River Parkway and over the Discovery Park Bridge into Discovery Park.

From Discovery Park we skated East on the American River Parkway to Sacramento State College, regrouping several times along the way.

We returned from Sacramento State College by skating West on M Street, West on K Street, South on 11th Street, and West on S Streets back to our 3rd and S starting point.

I estimate we stated about 14 miles.

After the skate, 14 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Skaters Leaving 3rd and S on September 10, 2001 Monday Night Skate.

We had an announcement from Larry Barnes that there will be an American River Clean-up on September 22nd, Saturday, at 9:00 a.m. Details are on this website under Special Upcoming Skating Events . Critter announced the September 8, Saturday, Lighthouse race was the last race of this year. Gordon Innes, Director of the Skate Patrol, led us on a Natomas skate.

First we skated North on 3rd Street and West in front of the Crocker Art Museum to Old Sacramento, regrouping twice.

Next we skated on the American River Parkway and over the Discovery Park Bridge into Discovery Park. Exiting Discovery Park, we skated North into Natomas, turning East after about 3 blocks onto a Natomas trail. We skated on this nice trail for some time.

Letter W graphice also skated on several Natomas streets, including West on Pebblewood. Then we began our return by skating South on Northgate. Next we turned West on the American River Parkway, which we skated back to Discovery Park.

After regrouping in Discovery Park, we skated to Old Sacramento, where we again regrouped before returning to our 3rd and S starting point.

I estimate we stated about 10 miles.

After the skate, 13 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

After looking at chalk art, we skated North on 15th Street to Capitol Ave. On Capitol Ave. we skated East to a parking lot near Andiamo's. After regrouping, we skated East on M to East Portal Park.

After regrouping, we skated East on M Street to 56th Street, where we skated North to a parking lot at H and Elvas. After regrouping, we skated full speed toward town on Elvas.

After regrouping at 33rd and C, we returned to our 3rd and S starting point by skating West on C Street, South on Alhambra, West on Capitol Ave., South on 25th Street, and West on S Street. I estimate that we skated about 8 miles.

After the skate, Larry and I enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Letter W graphice had 18 skaters. My camera is broken; no new photos. Critter announced that the next Lighthouse skating races would be on Saturday, September 8, 2001. Details are on this website under Special Upcoming Skating Events . Since it was hot, we did a short river run.

First we went South on Third to Broadway. After regrouping, we skated West on Broadway till we were able to skate by the marina, where we regrouped.

After skating by the marina, we regrouped again, then we skated South on Ramp Road and the levee to Sutterville Road.

After regrouping we skated East on Sutterville Road to Land Park Drive.

At Land Park Drive we again regrouped, then we had a fun skate through Land Park. Leaving Land Park, we headed North.

Soon we were regrouping in a high school. Then we again headed North on 17th Street and Park Drive.

After regrouping at the Tower Theatre marquee, we skated East on Broadway, North on 11th, and West on S back to our original 3rd and S starting point. I estimate that we skated about 8 miles.

After the skate, 9 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Letter W graphice had 25 skaters according to Larry. I did not do the skate, but I went to Vallejo's after the skate. Steve Lee and Mitchell led the skate.

The skate went to Old Sacramento. Then it went on the American River Parkway to Sacramento State College. It returned to 3rd and S via M, Alhambra, Capitol, and S Streets.

Steve Williams estimated that this was a 12 to 14 mile skate.

After the skate, 16 skaters enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Letter W graphice had 29 skaters, including Mari Tonin, Founder of the Monday Night Skate, and Gordon Innes, Director of the Sacramento Skate Patrol. My camera is broken; no new photos. We had 5 new skaters, including Julie and Terry. Because of several requests, we did and Elvas run.

First we skated East on S to 28th Street. After regrouping, we skated North on 28th Street to Capitol, where we skated East to a parking lot near Andiamo's.

After regrouping we skated East on M Street to East Portal Park, where we regrouped.

Next we again skated East on M, to 56th Street, where we skated North to a parking lot near H Street. After regrouping, we skated on Elvas to 33rd and C, where we again regrouped.

We then skated East on C, South on Alhambra, West on Capitol, South on 28th, and West on S back to our 3rd and S starting point.

Mitchell did a great job of sweeping so that none of our new skaters were stranded.

I estimate that we skated 8 to 10 miles.

After the skate, 11 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Heather and Yvonne before the June 4, 2001 Monday Night Skate.

Letter W graphice had 19 skaters and 1 bike rider. My camera is broken; no new photos. Mitchell had a digital camera. Later he made his photos available. As of August 13, 2001, five of Mitchell's photos are available through this website. Since Heather is leaving for 2 years of schooling to become a dental hygienist, we did a West Sacramento run, which was the first skate she ever did with us.

We skated North on 3rd Street, West to Front Street, and West over the Tower Bridge into West Sacramento. Mitchell did a great job of leading us on mostly smooth pavement to some very skateable pavement by the Lighthouse Golf Course.

After skating down a nice hill we regrouped.

Letter W graphice were soon skating on Carrie and other streets in West Sacramento, thanks to leadership by Mitchell, Steve Lee, and Gordon.

We returned to Sacramento by skating over the I Street Bridge down a great hill into the to the Amtrak Station.

After some fun skating at the Federal Courthouse with it nice stairs, we returned to our 3rd and S stating point.

I estimate that we skated 6 to 8 miles total.

After the skate, 11 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's. We also had a delicious cake that Yvonne bought to wish Heather well in dental hygienist school.

Scott, Barbara, Chad, Steve, and Daidre on Sacramento River levee on June 11, 2001 Monday Night Skate.

Letter W graphice had 20 skaters and 1 bike rider. No camera; no new photos. Chad and Barbara announced that they will be getting married in Cancoon on September 25, 2001. They expect to have a mainland recemption in October. After voting, we did a Sacramento River run.

We skated South on 3rd Street to Broadway, for our first regrouping. Then we skated to and by the Marina. After passing the Marina, we rested briefly, before skating South on the Sacramento River Levee to Sutterville Road, where we regrouped.

Chad led skaters who preferred a shorter skate East on Sutterville Road. After regrouping, most of us again skated South to Captain's Table, where we exited and skated South on Riverside to Piedmont. At Piedmont, we skated West and South on Piedmont. Soon we were skating East on Seamas.

Brian did a good job of leading us on many streets including Del Rio, Noonan, and Monterey as we skated back to town. We regrouped several times.

Communicating with Motorola Talkabouts, we regrouped with Chad's group (as planned) at the Sacramento Zoo. Next all of us were skating through Land Park to a school at Vallejo's. Next we skated North on 17th Street to Tower Theatre, where we regrouped.

Next we skated West on Broadway, North on 11th Street, and West on S and back to out 3rd and S starting point. I estimate that we skated about 11 miles total.

After the skate, 15 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

Chris and Skaters on Americn River Parkway on July 9, 2001 Monday Night Skate.

Letter W graphice had 19 skaters. Additionally Brian passed us on his bicycle, as he prepared for Eppie's Race. We did a 2 way American River Parkway run with a skate over the Garden Highway Bridge.

First we skated North on 3rd to Old Sacramento. After regrouping in Old Sac, we skated to the American River Parkway. We skated the Parkway to the Bridge into Discovery Park. After skating over the Discovery Park Bridge into Discovery Park, we regrouped at a water fountain.

Letter W graphice had 20 skaters. 2 of them were on bicycles. We did an American River Parkway run. My camera is broken; no new photos.

First we skated North on 3rd to Old Sacramento. After regrouping in Old Sac, we skated up and down on a bridge to the American River Parkway. We skated the Parkway to the Bridge into Discovery Park. After skating over the Discovery Park Bridge into Discovery Park, we regrouped at a water fountain.

After regrouping we skated East on the American River Parkway to Del Paso Boulevard. At Del Paso Boulevard 4 skaters returned to town. 16 of us continued East on the Parkway to Sacramento State College.

After regrouping at Sac State, as suggested by Dale, we skated across campus and through the tunnel that took us onto Elvas. From Elvas we turned onto M, where we skated West toward our starting point.

We skated West on M to East Portal Park. After regrouping, we again skated West on M to the Andiamo's Parking Lot. After regrouping, we skated West on Capitol Ave. South on 28th and West on S back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate that we skated 12 to 14 miles.

After the skate, 8 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

We skated South on 3rd Street to Broadway, for our first regrouping. Then we skated to and by the Marina. After passing the Marina, we rested briefly, before skating South on the Sacramento River Levee to Sutterville Road, where we regrouped.

Letter W graphice had 27 skaters. We did a pick up birthday cake and American River Parkway skate.

Mari, Founder of the Monday Night Skate, led us. We left about a half hour late because many skaters wanted to try out the new K2 skates. We used the Motorola TALKABOUTS that Don Chernich and Natalie Carroll selected to help keep the skate together. Skate Patrol members Steve Lee and Mitchell Ryan helped Mari coordinate the skate.

We skated East on R and meandered through downtown till we got to 24th and K to pick up a birthday cake for Daidre.

After resting, we skated to 20th and C Streets where we entered the American River Parkway.

We skated the Parkway to Old Sacramento, resting where the Parkway crosses Del Paso and in Discovery Park.

From Old Sacramento we skated South on 3rd Street back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate that we skated 8 miles total.

After the skate, 22 of us enjoyed food, beverage, Daidre's birthday cake, and immortal conversation in Vallejo's.

We skated East on S, T (new pavement), M, and Elvas to Sac State. One skater turned back before we reached Sac State. 6 of us enjoyed skating the ups and downs (Wheee!) of the parking lot.

We returned from Sac State via M, K, 13th and S Streets.

Jerry Tyler, K2 Skate Representative, skated with us, and announced that he would be back on June 4, Monday, at 6:00 p.m. with his van of K2 skates for skaters to try.

We skated North on 3rd Street, West to Front Street, and North into Old Sacramento, where we regrouped.

We skated on the American River Parkway to the bridge into Discovery Park. After regrouping, we skated on the Parkway to where DelPaso Boulevard crosses the Parkway, where we regrouped. Linda and some others skated back to our 3rd and S starting point.

Most of us skated to a bridge near Sacramento State College, where we skated South on H Street, and West on M Street to a 54th Street park where we rested and regrouped.

We skated West on Capitol and S Street back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate that the long skate group skated about 14 to 16 miles total.

Next we skated by the Marina, before skating South on Ramp Street and the levee.

We regrouped at Sutterville Road. Chad took 3 skaters who wanted a shorter skate with him. 9 of us skated South on the Sacramento River Levee till we reached Captain's Table, where we regrouped before exiting and skating South on Riverside.

After skating South on Riverside, we regrouped at Piedmont. We skated West and South on Piedmont. Soon we were skating East on Seamas.

After regrouping near the I Street Bridge in West Sacramento, we skated over some rough pavement and even walked over some gravel to some smooth pavement through a beautiful golf course.

Skating back into town, we skated by Raley Field and the Front Street Street Light Museum, where we regrouped for the last time before skating to our 3rd and S starting point.

Letter W graphice had 10 skaters. Mari, Founder of the Monday Night Skate, led. We experimented with Motorola walkie-talkies, which can help keep a group skate together. I did not bring my camera. We did an Elvas run. It was nice that much of our skate was in the daylight.

I announced that Channel 73 would broadcast The Joy of In-Line 4 part television series throughout April, starting Sunday, the 8th, at 7:30 p.m.

Gerald Lim announced that there would be free burritos after the Wednesday Night Davis skate.

Mari announced that this skating season would have some new improvements.

First we skated East on S, then we turned North on 28th. From 28th we skated East on N, crossing Folsom going North. We skated East on M to 58th Street, where we turned north.

After regrouping in an H Street parking lot, we skated back toward town on Elvas. After regrouping at 33rd and C, we returned to our 3rd and S starting point on Alhambra, Capitol, 17th, and S.

I estimate we skated 8 miles.

First we skated East on S, then we turned North on 28th. From 28th we skated East on N, crossing Folsom going North. We skated East on M till we were near the college.

After regrouping at Sac State, we skated to the parking lot. The elevator quickly brought us to the top floor. On the top floor, we enjoyed hearing the Sac State Drum and Bugle Corps rehearse. Skating down to the bottom of a parking lot is always fun.

We returned the way that we came. I estimate we skated 8 to 10 miles.

Money Store in West Sacramento from the Front (3/22/2000)

Mitchell and I skated to West Sacramento. We skated North on 3rd Street and West on the Tower Bridge to West Sacramento. In West Sacramento we skated to the golf course. The lighting was fair and the pavement was mostly quite smooth.

We returned to our 3rd and S starting point via the I Street Bridge and Old Sacramento. I estimate that we skated about 6 miles.

Steve and Mitchell on Richards Boulevard on the February 5, 2001 Monday Night Skate.

Mitchell and Steve Lee and I skated. Steve, who can skate backwards faster than most people can skate forwards, led most of the skate.

We did a Richards Boulevard skate. First we skated North on 3rd Street, West on N Street, and North again into Old Sac.

From Old Sac we went up and down the bridge to Discovery Park. Instead of skating West into Discovery Park, we skated East on Richards Boulevard. Most of Richards Boulevard now has sidewalks.

After regrouping in front of the Erotic Dancers club, we skated further East on Richards Boulevard, and South at the next light. As we skated South, we skated through the housing project.

Next we skated South on 12th Street into Downtown Sacramento, where we enjoyed skating up and down the best parking lot in the world.

Steve led us through parts of Capitol Park, then we returned to our 3rd and S starting point by skating West on S Street I estimate we skated 8 miles.

After the skate all 3 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's.

First we went South on Third to Broadway. After regrouping, we skated West on Broadway till we were able to skate by the marina.

After skating by the marina, we regrouped, then we skated South on Ramp Road and the levee to Sutterville Road.

After regrouping we skated East on Sutterville Road to Land Park Drive.

At Land Park Drive we again regrouped, then Steve Lee led us on a fun skate through Land Park. Leaving Land Park, we headed North on 17th Street.

Hadley and I skated to Old Sacramento, through Discovery Park, on Garden Highway to Truxel, and on Truxel to West ElCamino.

On West ElCamino we skated East to NorthGate. On NorthGate we skated North back into town.

Hadley was very patient with me throughout the skate. I had new skates that had slow bearings that hurt my feet. Hadley waited for me many times.

At 16th and E I took off my skates and walked home. Hadley skated back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate that we skated 6 to 8 miles.
