Mari and Gordon led us for a spectacular Christmas light skate. We had 10 skaters.
We went East on S Street to 28th Street, where we went North to Capitol. On Capitol we skated East to a parking lot near Andiamos, where we regrouped.
Next we skated East on M Street. On 41st Street we skated South. I forget the exact sequence, but we skated through residences from M to T and from 41st street to 58th Street.
We found the best concentration of lights near 53rd and S, where entire blocks of houses were decorated. Also spectacular was a home on 48th Street near T.
We skated back to our 3rd and S starting point, by skating West on M and Capitol, South on 17th Street, and West on S. I estimate we skated 8 to 10 miles.
After the skate 8 of us enjoyed food, beverage, and conversation at Vallejo's. Bernie

First we skated to the Downtown Mall to see some of its Christmas lighting.
When we skated to the State Capitol we found the Christmas lights were not on.
While downtown we

parking lots.
We skated through some downtown residential areas looking for some Christmas lights. Then we skated
the new loop of the American River Parkway that goes around the Almond growers.
Coming off the Parkway at C Street, we skated back to our 3rd and S starting point.
I estimate we skated about 7 miles.
After the skate Steve and I enjoyed food, beverages, and conversation at Vallejo's,
I learned that he has just bought a digital camera.

We had 3 skaters. Bryan, John, and myself. Bryan did a great job of leading. We did a Sacramento State University skate.
First we went East on S Street. On 28th Street, we skated North to Capitol. On Capitol we headed East to a parking lot near Andiamos, where we regrouped.
Next we skated East on M Street, regrouping at a 54th Street park. We continued East on M to 59th Street, where we briefly skated South. Then we were again skating East on M Street. Then we skated East on Elvas. From Elvas we entered through an arch on a trail into Sacramento State University.
At Sac State we skated up and down the
parking lot. After skating on J Street, 58th Street, Elvas, Alhambra, Capitlol, 28th
Street, and S Street, we were back at our 3rd and S starting point.
I estimate we skated about 9 miles.
After the skate John and I enjoyed food, beverages, and conversation at Vallejo's,
where he taught me about digital cameras and PhotoShop.

Bryan led. Mitchell led some of the time. Ricahrd came on his bicycle; his Rollerblades are broken.
We 3 skaters and 1 bike rider went East on S Street and T Streets. Then we skated South on 24th Street to Marshall, where we looked for the carved pumpkins. Residents told us the pumpkins were displayed starting October 31. On the afternoon of November 6 they were thrown away. We missed them.
Next we skated South by Curtis Park to Sutterville Road. Skating West on Sutterville Road we skated up, up, over and down the I 5 freeway b r i d ge to Sacramento City College. Wheee!!!! Nice hill!
After we skated around and through Sacramento City College, Bryan led us through some Land Park neighborhoods and South to other neighborhoods. I remember Mead and Monterey as some of the streets we skated.
After neighborhood skating, we headed back to town and 3rd and S on Riverside Drive.
I estimate we skated 7 to 9 miles total.
After the skate, I was the only one to go to Vallejos, where I had a delicious meal.

John led the Halloween skate. My camera batteries were low; I missed a great opportunity to take pictures of a variety of costumed skaters: Gordon as a witch/ghost, Kevin from Star Trek, and myself as Captain Rollerblade. Turnout was low because the ground had many wet spots.
John led the 4 of us East on S Street, and South on 26th Street and 24th Street to 2400 Marshall Street, where we hoped to see the carved pumpkins. The pumpkins were not out. Apparently they are not out till Halloween.
John also led us to a very original tile decorated house.
After marveling at the tile decorated house, we skated to Tower Theatre.
After looking at the Tower Theatre posters and marquis, we returned to our 3rd and S starting point via Broadway, llth, and S Streets.
I estimate we skated about 6 to 7 miles total.
After the skate, we went home. No Vallejos.

I announced that Steve Lee will lead an American River Parkway skate on October 28, Saturday. The skaters will meet at Lyons Restaurant on Richards Boulevard at 6:00 a.m. and at the foot of the Discovery Park Bridge, where the skate will begin, at 7:00 a.m.
The Halloween skate with costumes will be at 3rd and S on October 30, Monday, at 7:00 p.m.
We had a new skater named Doug. We had 13 skaters total. We skated an Elvas run, starting by skating East on S Street and Capitol to a parking lot near Andiamo's, where we regrouped.
Next we skated East on M Street to a park near 54th Street, where we regrouped.
We again skated East on M Street to 56th Street. On 56th Street we skated North to a parking lot at H Street and Elvas.
After regrouping in the parking lot, we flew toward downtown Sacramento on Elvas.
We regrouped at 33rd and C Streets, then we skated on C Street, Alhambra, Capitol, through Capitol Park, and West on S Street back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated about 8 to 9 miles total.

Mari brought 2 recommendations from the September 19 Skate Patrol meeting. Skaters should not skate through red lights assuming that no cars are coming, and skaters should not skate in the middle of the road. The should skate like PALS - Polite, Alert, Legal, and Smart.
We skated an Elvas run. Mari led us East on S, to 19th Street, where we skated North to Capitol Avenue.
After regrouping at Capitol, we skated to a parking lot near Andiamo's, where we regrouped.
Next we skated East on M Street to a park near 54th Street, where we regrouped.
We again skated East on M Street to 56th Street. On 56th Street we skated North to a parking lot at H Street and Elvas.

After regrouping in Discovery Park, we skated East on the moonlit Trail to the Northrup Overpass, where we regrouped.
Continuing East we again regrouped at the Del Paso Road Crossing.
Crossing Del Paso, we skated to the Trail exit near 20th Street on C Street.
After regrouping at the Trail exit, we skated South on 18th and West on S back to our 3rd and S starting point.

We did an American River Parkway run. We skated North on 3rd Street to Old Sacramento. From Old Sacramento we skated up then down on the bridge toward Discovery Park - with its exciting downhill run.
After our downhill run, we started skating on the American River Parkway Multi-use Trail to the bridge that would take us into Discovery Park. We were blocked by construcion, and we had to skate back to a street to get onto the bridge into Discovery Park.
From Discovery Park, we skated East on the American River Parkway Multi-use Trail. We regrouped where Northgate goes over the trail. Then we resumed skating South and East to an exit from the trail on C Street between 20th and 21st streets.
After we exited the American River Parkway, we skated South on 18th Street and West on S Street back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated about 8 miles total.

After Del Rio, we were skating West on Seamas. Then we skated a loop on Piedmont.
Leaving Piedmont we skated North on Riverside to Captain's Table. Skating West and up Captain's Table took us to the Sacramento River Levee.
On the Levee, Mari suggested that, if there were enough interest, we could skate as a group to a River Cats game, checking our skates at the game. The skaters were interested, so Mari will check into this.
We had a beautiful skate North on the Levee to the Marina near Broadway.
From the Marina we were soon back at our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated a total of 9 miles.

At first I proposed a Lighthouse skate, but the group was against this because we once had rocks thrown at us on such a skate. By popular demand, we did a river skate.
We skated South on 3rd Street to Broadway. Then we went West. Next we skated South, skating by the marina.
Then we skated South on Ramp Street and the levee. We regrouped near Sutterville Road, then we again went South on the Sacramento River Levee till we exited on Captain's Table.
Then we headed North on Riverside to Sutterville. Then we skated East on Sutterville Road to Land Park.
After skating North on Land Park Drive, we entered Land Park for some fun skating.
Next Bryan led us to Vic's Ice Cream on Riverside.
After some great ice cream, we skated North on Riverside to S and West on S back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated about 8 miles total.

We did a blackberry skate. We skated by some blackberry bushes with blackberries, which are now ripe. This is the way I often skate when I skate home from work.
First we skated to Old Sacramento, then up and down on the bridge toward Discovery Park - with its exciting downhill run.
After our downhill run, we skated on the American River Parkway Multi-use Trail to the bridge that would take us into Discovery Park.
In Discovery Park, we enjoyed our first blackberry bush. I was surprised that only 3 or 4 skaters wanted to pick any blackberries.
Next we skated East on the American River Parkway Multi-use Trail. We regrouped where the trail crosses a road. Then we exited on C Street between 20th and 21st streets.
We skated West on C Street, D Street, and E Street, then we skated South on 14th Street. Soon we were back at our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated about 8 miles total.

Skating North on Riverside, we stopped at Vics for Ice Cream. Yum, Yum, Good. Next we again skated North on Riverside back to S Street. On S Street we turned West to return to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated about 8 miles total.

Mari, Founder of the Monday Night Skate, led us. We had 43 skaters. It was a good turn-out because of the State of the Skate celebration. Jerry Tyler, K2 Skate Representative, came to let skaters try out the latest K2 Skates.
We had a raffle and several skaters won T shirts, K2 Skate wheels, $25 Rubicon gift certificates, and other prizes.
Mari led us, but she had helpers, including most Skate Patrol members. We skated East on S, to 20th Street, where we regrouped. We then skated North on 20th Street to C Street.
We regrouped at the beginning of the new trail at 21st and C Streets. After regrouping, we skated on the American Parkway Multi-Use Trail System to Old Sacramento, regrouping several times along the way.
With all the sand and cobblestones, we had trouble skating off the trail into Old Sacramento. After leaving Old Sacramento, we were soon back at our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated about 8 miles total.
After the skate, Rusty, Liz, David, Chad, Barbara, Larry, and others (10 total) and I (briefly) met at the Vallejos at 4th and S for refreshments and converstion.

I had the great pleasure and honor of leading the skate. Thanks to Dean, I know that we had 14 skaters.
We skated the way I often skate when I skate home from work. We skated to Old Sacramento, then up and down on the bridge toward Discovery Park - with its exciting downhill run.
After our downhill run, we skated on the American River Parkway Multi-use Trail to the bridge that would take us into Discovery Park.
After skating downhill into Discovery Park, we skated East on the American River Parkway Multi-use Trail. As we passed the Northgate Overpass and neared an exit that could take us to the 12th Street Bridge, we voted to take the 12th Street Bridge back into town.
After coasting down the 12th Street Bridge (on the side, not on the freeway), we skated South into Downtown on 12 Street. We turned West on L Street, where we regrouped. Soon we were back at our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated about 8 miles total.

We skated South on Ramp Street followed by the Sacramento River Levee to Sutterville Road. After regrouping on Sutterville Road, we skated further South on the levee to Captain's Table, where we skated North on Riverside.
After skating North on Riverside, we skated East to Land Park Drive, where we again skated North.
We skated back into town on Land Park Drive, stopping at the Tower Theatre. After regrouping at the Tower Theatre, we skated West on Broadway and North on 1lth S treet back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated about 8 miles total.

After skating through some housing, we came back skating East to Land Park Drive, where we turned North. We skated North on Land Park Drive to Sutterville Road, where we skated West to Riverside Drive.
We skated back into town on Riverside Drive and 11th Street, then we skated West on S Street back to our 3rd and S starting point. I estimate we skated 8 to 10 miles total.

We did an Elvas run. Mari led us East on S Street, then North on 11th Street to Capitol Park. From Capitol Park we skated East on Capitol Avenue to a parking lot near Andiamo's.
After regrouping near Andiamo's, we skated East on M Street to a park near 54th Street.
After regrouping at the park, we continued east on M Street to 58th Street. We went North on 58th to Elvas, where we regrouped.
We blasted down Elvas to a corner in front of Cannery Park. After regrouping, we skated into town via Alhambra and Capitol Avenue.
After regrouping near the Convention Center, we skated back to our 3rd Street and S Starting point. I estimate we skated a total of 9 miles.

Gerald Lim invited skaters to join him on the weekly Wednesday Night Skate in Davis.
Steve Lee reported on weekend patrolling the American River Trail. The skater traffic is light, and most skaters are following the rules. Steve also announced that there will be certification for new Skate Patrol members on May 13.
Steve Williams announced an open speed-skating event. It will be April 29, Saturday, starting around 7:00 a.m. at the Lighthouse - near the golf course - in West Sacramento.
Mari led us East on Capitol Avenue, North on 24th Street, West on C Street. At 19th and C we entered the new Trail that connects with the American River Parkway.
We skated on the Parkway to Old Sacramento. Then we skated back to our 3rd and S starting place. I estimate we skated a total of 7 miles.

Mari Tonin led us. We had 7 skaters including Suzan Davis, Hadley Grow, Ken, and Kirsten. The turnout was low because it had been raining, the temperature was in the low 50's, and there was some chance for more rain. On the plus side, the moon was 99% of full.
Mari led us South to Broadway. At Braodway we skated South past the Marina. Then we skated South on the Sacramento River Levee past Sutterville Road to a more southern outlet. Off the Levee and on Riverside, we skated South to Piedmont, where we turned West.
We skated East on Seamas. Then we skated North on Nexius, Del Rio, Land Park, and 5th Street, returning to our 3rd and S starting point. On the way we stopped at Mari's on 2nd Avenue to pick up her dog, Tucker. A solid 8 mile skate.
After the skate, some of us met in the Rubicon for refreshments and converstion. Bernie
Jerry Tyler, K2 Representative, was at the skate early with his K2 Van. Skaters were able to try out the latest K2 skates. I gave Sublime Skates discount coupons to the skaters who wanted them.

For our regular skate, we went East on Capitol and M to 58th Street. On 58th Street we skated North to Elvas. Then we skated back to our 3rd and S starting point on Elvas, Capitol, and S Streets. An 8 to 10 mile skate.

Mari was back to lead us and we had 27 skaters. Skate Patrol helpers included Gordon Innes, Don Chernich, Natalie Carroll, Julie Kaye, and Steve Lee. Jerry Tyler, K2 Representative, skated with us. Since the 15th and N Parking Lot is being transformed into a building, and is now fenced, we have to find another meeting place for our Monday Night Skate. Mari lead us to look at 11th and O, 3rd and S, and 14th and R parking lots. We then voted and selected the 3rd and S parking lot as our new home.
For our regular skate, we wandered Sacramento in new ways. We went East to 25th Street, North to I Street, then West on I Street to Amtrack. From the train station, we went to Old Sacramento, then East on Capitol Mall back to our 15th and N starting point. A 6 to 8 mile skate.

After the cookies, we contiued North on 17th Street. Then we looked at the Tower Theatre Marqui. To return to 15th and N, we skated West on Broadway, then North on 11th Street to O Street, and East on O Street. 8 to 10 miles total. After this skate, I went straight home. Bernie

We had 7 skaters, including Larry Barnes, Joelle, Gordon Innes, Burke Leach, and Steve Lee. A full moon helped us throughout our skate. We skated East on Capitol and M Streets to Sacramento State College.
At Sac State we used the el vater to skate down the parking lot. Baton twirlers and a band were practicing on the roof of the parking lot. After the parking lot, we skated to Guy West Bridge.
We skated back to our 15th and N starting point the way we came - on M Street and Capitol. About 8 miles total.

Steve Lee and I led a group of 7 skaters, including Larry Barnes, Joelle, Burke Leach, and Lisa. A half moon helped us throughout our skate. We skated South on 14th, then West on T till its end. Then we skated South to Broadway. On Broadway we went East. Next we went South to and around the Marina. Pretty view.
From the Marina we went South till we were on the Sacraemnto River Levee. On the Levee we skated South to Sutterville Road.
On Sutterville Road we skated East to Land Park. Steve led us through Land Park. Then we headed North through Middle School and by the Tower Theatre marquee.
After browsing the marquee, we skated West on Broadway and North on 11th back to our 15th and N starting point. About 8 miles total skate. Bernie

Steve Lee, Rose Goff, Larry Barnes, Joelle, Burke Leach, another skater and I made up the original 7 skaters.
As we were skating West on Capitol toward Old Sac, Larry Barnes and Joelle dropped out, leaving 5 skaters.
The 5 of us decided to go to Sac State. On the
way, we used an el evator to skate down
a parking garage.
At 19th and K Rose Goff fell on her arm. She heard
something pop in her shoulder. Steve Lee used a neck tie for a sling, and
we used my truck to take Rose to Sutter Hopsital Emergency services.
Sorry to see a great skater get hurt, but it was
encouraging to see all 5 skaters working together, with some help from a
police officer, to help Rose get emergency medical help. When I asked Rose
if I should report her injury, she kindly told me to tell it the way it
is.
Steve Lee, I were the only skaters. There was lots of debris on the streets and sidewalks, and quite a few wet spots.
We skated South to Sacramento City College. After some playing, we went East on Suterville and then North by Curtis Park and on 21st Street.
In town we skated West on Q Street back to our 15th and N starting point. About 8 miles total skate. Then we went to the Open Mike at the Fox and Goose.
We had 4 skaters including Steve Lee, and Rose Goff. Steve Lee led us South on 11th Street till it became Riverside. Then we skated furthur South on Riverside to Sutterville Road. At Sutterville Road we got on the levy and skated back toward town on that trail, until we got to the Marina.
From the Marina we skated back on Front Street to Capitol Mall. We skated East on Capitol Mall to the State Capitol, skating down some stairs on the way. After the State Capitol we got to use an el evator to skate down a parking lot.
To put icing on the cake Steve led us in some follow the leader in Captitol Park as we returned to our 15th and N starting point. 8 mile total.
I was the only one who went to the Rubicon. Mari Tonin was there. Mondays nights are Gratefuil Dead nights. I had a portabella sandwhich, and for once I really listened to and enjoyed the music.
Rose Goff and I (Bernie Scoville) were the only skaters. There were many wet spots on the streets, and there was not much moon. For safety we went on Capitol amd M Streets almost to Sac State and then back to town on Elvas.
On Elvas a police officer asked us if we had seen a man on a bicycle with no pants. Rose had seen the fellow, but I hadn't. From Elvas we went South on Alhambra to Capitol. We then skated West on Capitol to our 15th and N starting point. About 7 miles total. Neither of us went to the Rubicon.

Leaving the Sacramento River we skated East on Sutterville Road to Land Park. Steve led us through Land Park to a smooth slab where Mari Tonin used to teach skating lessons.
Afer playing on the slab we skated West through Land Park to Land Park Drive. Next we skated North on Land Park Drive to the Tower Theatre, where we looked at the marquee and the movie posters.
Next we skated West on Broadway and North on 11th back to our to 15th and N on starting point. 8 miles total skate.
After the skate some skaters went to the Rubicon, but I went home.

Before we started skating, Rose called her firend Melissa near 53rd and T. Melissa said to come on over.
We had lots of moon so we went South to skate by the Sacramento River. Aftr skating by the river to Sutterville Road, we skated East on Sutterville Road to Land Park. Then through Land Park, then North on 21st Street to Second Avenue. On Second Avenue, we skated East.
Eventually we were in Christmas light paradise in the 52nd and T Streets area. There we skated up and and down and around with all the beautiful Christmas lights. My favorite homes were at 53rd and T and at 48th near the Bridge over Highways 50. These places had lights and Christmas music.
Rose's friend, Melissa, one of the few people to ever bike into a beaver on the American River Parkway, and her mother, Esther, gave us wonderful bottled water, oranges, bananas, and apples. Melissa told us all the work they did to put up lights in the neighborhood.
After our wonderful visit, we skated back to 15th and N on T Street, Folsom Boulevard, and Capitol. 10 to 12 miles total skate.
After the skate I got to eat and talk with Rose Goff at the Rubicon. Mari Tonin was there too.

Sacramento Skate Patrol Director, Gordon Innes led the skate Skate Patrol members, Scott Baggenstoss, Larry Barnes, Julie Kaye, Steve Lee, and Mazen Haffar helped. We started and ended with 11 skaters. Our music never arrived, so we didn't sing, but we saw lots of Christmas lights.
First we went around the Capitol, where we saw the biggest Christmas tree of the night. Then we went East on H and M Streets, stoppin to see numerous homes with lots of lights. When we got to 52 Street we went South to T Street. Between 48th and 52nd and S and T there were many beautiful lights. My favorite was at 48th and the bridge over Highway 50 - MANY lights and music too.
On 48th we skated North to M, then West on M and Capitol back to our 15th and N starting point. Julie Kaye and Gordon Innes wanted to go to Bernardos instead of the Rubicon. I got to Bernardos first. Due to special circumstances, the restaurant had closed at 7:45 p.m. When Julie and Gordon got to Bernardos and found the restaurant closed, they went to the Rubicon. I had already gone home.

We skated West on N and Capitol. We stopped twice for workshops on skating down stairs. Steve Lee is especially good at skating down stairs backwards.
We skated West over Tower Bridge, around the Money store. It looks pretty reflected on the Sacramento River. Next we came back into town over the I Street Bridge into the Amtrak Train Station, where we skated the train tunnels.
Next we skated East to an ele vator that helped us skate down a park ing lot.
After we skated by the Imax theatre, Steve Lee gave us some follow the leader through Capitol Park back to our 15th and N starting point. 6 miles. Steve, Rose, and I were able to have some refreshments at the Rubicon. Mari Tonin joined us briefly, and confirmed December 13 as our Christmas Carol skate.

We skated East on Capitol and M to Sac State where we used the elevator to skate the parkinglot. We also skated some additional good pavement and enjoyed the night view from the Guy West bridge.
We had a wonderful skate back to our 15th and N starting point, returning on Elvas, Alhambra, and K Streets. 8 to 10 miles. No partying at the Rubicon for us.

In Land Park we stopped to skate on the large smooth concrete slab where Mari Tonin used to teach skating lessons. We skated North on Land Park Drive to Tower Theatre. From Tower Theater we skated East on Broadway, North on 21st Street, West on N Street back to our starting point at 15th and N. About 8 miles.
All 4 of us then got together for some food and drink at the Rubicon, where we were joined by Mari Tonin. We decided to do the Christmas Carol Skate on December 13, Monday.

Near the Sacramento Wharf we had a serendipitious experience. We noticed that the street lights are different and from different time periods. Each lamp post has a metal plate on the ground to identify it and give some of its history. Charming. A bright idea that is a shining example of Sacramento's historical highlights.
After the Lamp Post Museum we skated through downtown Sacramento, taking in the best parking lot garage. We returned through Capitol Park to our starting point - 15th and N Streets. About 8 miles. All 5 of us went home without stopping at the Rubicon.

We then skated South on Riverside to 4th Avenue, where we stopped by Mari Tonin's place. Next we skated further South on Land Park Drive, then we skated East throuugh Land Park to Sacramento City College. After skating and tricking through Sacramento City College, we skated East on Sutterville Road and over the bridge that spans Highway 99. Hill!!! Next we skated North through Curtis Park.
Skating East on Marshall we encoutnered 52 candle-lighted pumpkins that had been carved by Lois, Carl, Bruce, and others. Awesome!!!
Then a second momentous serendipity, we skated by and gawked the Goblin House in the 2800 Block of 22nd Street. Interesting!!!
Next we skated by Julie Kaye's House to pay her a visit. Then we skated to the Tower Theatre. Finally we skated North on 11th Street back to our 15th and N Streets starting point. About 10 miles. 2 met afterwards in the Rubicon.

Mari said we would stay downtown to show off our costumes. We went East on Capitol to 28th, then North on 28th to K. On K and I we went West to Old Sacramento through the Amtrack Train Station. We then skated East on K Street through part of the the Downtown Plaza. Then we went South on the 4th Street Sidewalk, then East on L, North to K and East on the K Street Mall through Capitol Park back to our 15th and N starting point. About 6 miles. 11 met afterwards in the Rubicon.
